For Parents and Guardians: This notice explains how Digital Dog Tech collects, uses, and protects information from children under 13 years of age. 1. Overview & Our Commitment
Digital Dog Tech provides AI-powered educational tools designed for K–12 schools. Some of our users are children under 13 years of age. We are committed to protecting their privacy and complying with all requirements of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), 15 U.S.C. §§ 6501–6506, and the FTC’s COPPA Rule, 16 C.F.R. Part 312.
Our core principles for children’s data:
- Collect only what is necessary for educational purposes
- Never use children’s data for advertising or marketing
- Never sell or rent children’s data
- Never build profiles for commercial purposes
- Give parents full visibility and control
- Delete data when it is no longer needed

3. Information Collected from Children
We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our educational services:
3.1 Information We Collect
- First name or alias (last name is NOT required for student accounts)
- Username (may be assigned by the school; does not need to be a real name)
- Grade level
- Class/section assignment (linked to the teacher’s account)
- Schoolwork and responses submitted through the platform
- AI tutor conversation history (interactions with Bubbles)
- Progress and performance data (scores, completion status)
3.2 Information We Do NOT Collect from Children
- Full legal name (unless provided by the school)
- Home address or phone number
- Email address (school-managed accounts do not require a child’s email)
- Social Security number or government ID
- Photographs or videos
- Precise geolocation
- Biometric data
- Social media accounts
4. How Information Is Collected
- School-created accounts: Teachers or administrators create student accounts and enter the necessary information. The child does not register directly.
- Parent-created accounts: A parent or guardian creates the account and provides information on behalf of the child.
- Platform usage: When a child uses the platform (e.g., completing an assignment or chatting with the AI tutor), their responses and interactions are recorded.
- Automatic data: We collect minimal technical data (browser type, session timestamps) for security and functionality. We do NOT use this data to track or profile children.
5. How Information Is Used
Children’s information is used exclusively for educational purposes:
- Providing access to age-appropriate educational content and AI tutoring
- Tracking academic progress and generating reports for teachers and parents
- Personalizing the learning experience (e.g., adaptive difficulty levels)
- Enabling teachers to monitor student work and provide feedback
- Maintaining platform security and preventing unauthorized access
Children’s data is NEVER used for:
- Advertising or marketing of any kind
- Building behavioral profiles for commercial purposes
- Selling or renting to any third party
- Training AI models on identifiable student data
- Any purpose unrelated to education
6. Disclosures to Third Parties
We do not disclose children’s personal information to third parties except in these limited circumstances:
- The child’s school or teacher: Student data is accessible to the school and teachers who manage the child’s account.
- The child’s parent or guardian: Parents have full access to their child’s data.
- Service providers: Essential vendors (e.g., hosting infrastructure) who are contractually bound to protect data and use it only to provide services on our behalf.
- AI processing: When the AI tutor (Bubbles) processes a child’s input, the data is anonymized before being sent to AI model providers. No personally identifiable information is included.
- Legal requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of a child.
7. Parental Consent
7.1 School Consent (COPPA School Exception)
Under the FTC’s COPPA Rule, schools may consent on behalf of parents for the collection of student information when used solely for educational purposes. When a school or district enters into an agreement with Digital Dog Tech, the school represents that it has the authority to provide consent on behalf of parents and has provided appropriate notice to parents.
7.2 Direct Parental Consent
When a child’s account is not managed by a school, we obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting any personal information from children under 13. Consent methods include:
- Signed consent form (physical or electronic)
- Credit card verification (a small temporary charge that is immediately reversed)
- Video call verification with a parent
- Government ID verification
7.3 Consent Is Not Required for
We may collect a parent’s email address for the sole purpose of obtaining consent, without prior consent. This email is used only for the consent process and is deleted if consent is not provided.
8. Parent & Guardian Rights
Parents and guardians have the following rights under COPPA:
8.1 Right to Review
You may request to review the personal information we have collected from your child. We will verify your identity before providing access. Contact us at info@iteachai.co to make a request.
8.2 Right to Delete
You may request that we delete your child’s personal information. Upon receiving a verified request, we will delete the data within 30 days. Note: deleting data may make the child’s account unusable.
8.3 Right to Revoke Consent
You may revoke your consent for the continued collection and use of your child’s information at any time. Upon revocation, we will stop collecting data and delete existing data within 30 days.
8.4 Right to Refuse Further Collection
You may allow your child to continue using the Services with data already collected while refusing permission for further data collection. However, this may limit functionality.
8.5 How to Exercise Your Rights
Contact us at info@iteachai.co with the subject line “COPPA Parent Request.” Include your name, your child’s name or username, and the school (if applicable). We will verify your identity and respond within 30 days.
9. Data Security
We protect children’s data with the same rigorous security measures applied to all user data:
- AES-256 encryption for data at rest
- SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit
- Role-based access controls
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Employee training on children’s privacy requirements
- Incident response procedures with parent notification
10. Data Retention & Deletion
- Student data is retained only for as long as it is needed for educational purposes.
- At the end of each school year, schools are prompted to confirm whether student data should be retained or deleted.
- If a school account is terminated, all associated student data is deleted within 60 days.
- Parent-managed accounts: data is deleted within 30 days of a deletion request or consent revocation.
- Anonymized, aggregated data (which cannot identify any individual child) may be retained for product improvement.
11. Changes to This Notice
If we make material changes to this COPPA Privacy Notice, we will notify parents and schools via email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. We will obtain new consent if the changes involve collecting additional information or using existing information for new purposes.
